June 18, 2021

Developing communication and appreciating the achieved level of understanding and cooperation with the civil sector, the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption organized an Open Day for NGOs.

The guests of the Agency were representatives of non-governmental organizations Center for Democratic Transition (CDT), Center for Civil Liberties (CEGAS), Center for Development of Non-Governmental Organizations (CRNVO), Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI), Civic Alliance and Institute of Alternatives.

Emphasizing that the protection of the public interest and the rule of law are the connecting lines that direct the two sides to close cooperation, Director Jelena Perovic informed her interlocutors about the part of the European Commission Working Document on the situation in Chapters 23 and 24, which states, among other things, following “changes in the Agency's Council and its leadership in 2020, the Agency began to proactively approach the challenges of its independence, integrity, impartiality, transparency, non-selective approach and quality of its decisions, improving overall performance.”

Such assessments encourage and point to the correctness of the path started, but also oblige further progress and readiness to adopt new experiences in order to improve practice, with the understanding that initial steps have been taken in a complex and layered mission to reduce real and perceived levels of corruption.

During the meeting, the key results from the quarterly report were presented, which indicate the practical application of a determined commitment to reforms, as well as the growing trend of citizens' trust in the work of this institution.

In addition, the activities of the Agency in the areas of whistleblower protection, corruption proofing legislation and giving opinions on laws and bylaws, development of integrity plans and methodology used in the verification of income and property reports are explained in more detail.
