Meeting with representatives of the EU Delegation to Montenegro

Upon the initiative of Director of the Agency Mr Sreten Radonjić and President of the Council Ms Goranka Vučinić, a meeting was held with Head of the Delegation Mr Mitja Drobnič and his associates, in the premises of the European Union Delegation to Montenegro.

Director of the Agency Mr Sreten Radonjić informed Ambassador Drobnič on the previous, current and planned activities to be undertaken for the purpose of creating preconditions for the beginning of the work of the Agency.   Additionally, he presented strategic goals of the Agency and expressed confidence that the Agency would start working on 1 January 2015.

Mr Radonjić also informed the Ambassador on space, personnel and technical capacities of the future Agency, as well as on the plans for strengthening personnel capacities, through continuous professional training of staff, particularly in the part related to the control over the funding of political subjects and election campaigns.

Mr Radonjić emphasised that the Agency would consistently meet all envisaged commitments arising from the Action Plan for negotiation chapter 23 and put maximum efforts for achieving concrete and measurable results.

President of the Council Ms Goranka Vučinić informed the representatives of the Delegation on competences of the Council and dynamics of adopting the bylaws which would be proposed by the Director in the period to come.  She emphasised that the Parliament of Montenegro had provided administrative support and facilities for the work of the Council, while the Government had provided financial funds.  She noted that executive and legislative powers gave a concrete support for the implementation of the statutory competences of the Council, so that the Agency for Prevention of Corruption might start working on 1 January 2016.

Ambassador Drobnič voiced pleasure over the initiative of the Director of the Agency and President of the Council for holding a meeting as well as readiness of the Delegation to provide a constant support to the Agency.

He pointed out the importance of the constant communication between the future Agency and experts of the EU.  He praised the intention of the Council to include actively in its work the representatives of non-governmental sector and pointed out the importance of transparent and effective work aimed at increasing the public confidence in the work of the future Agency, He stressed that it was important to present realistically the overall anti-corruption results and plans for the future activities of the Agency.    

Control of funding of political parties, in line with the Law, he added, would be very important segment of the work of the Agency, aimed at further strengthening of public confidence in the election system.  Mr Drobnič also pointed out the importance of trainings for employees and building of quality administrative capacities of the Agency, adding that it’s work would be supported by the Delegation, with the aim of achieving measurable results.
