A ceremony and a lecture to mark the launching of the Twinning project 'Support to the implementation of integrity measures'

A ceremony and a lecture to mark the launching of the twinning project "Support to the implementation of integrity measures" were held at the Hilton Hotel in Podgorica.

The project is funded by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II). The EU partner on the project is the National Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Italy (ANAC), with the Montenegrin Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (APC) as a beneficiary institution.

The project seeks to provide support to the public sector in the implementation of integrity measures and to improve the system for the prevention of corruption by strengthening the capacity of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption in the discharge of its duties, as well as by improving the anti-corruption policies, and affirming the principles of good governance.

The today's event was attended by a number of top officials of the Government of Montenegro, diplomatic missions of States and international organizations in Montenegro, as well as guests from the public and non-governmental sectors. Deputy Prime Minister for Political System, Interior and Foreign Policy and Minister of Justice of Montenegro, Mr. Zoran Pažin, and the Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro, H.E. Mr. Aivo Orav, gave an opening address. The guests were afterwards addressed by the Minister of European Affairs of Montenegro, Mr. Aleksandar Andrija Pejović, and the highest representatives of partner institutions on the project, ANAC President, Mr. Raffaele Cantone, and Director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, Mr. Sreten Radonjić, as well as H.E. Mr. Vincenzo Del Monaco, the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Montenegro.

In the continuation of the ceremony, Mr. Raffaele Cantone delivered a lecture on the topic of "White Collar and Public Procurement Corruption", attended by representatives of public institutions, the student community and non-governmental sector.

The twinning project "Support to the implementation of integrity measures" is worth € 600,000, and will be implemented over a period of 18 months through four main components: strengthening the implementation of integrity plans; improvement of the application of the provisions on the protection of whistleblowers; strengthening the institutional and administrative capacities of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption to coordinate and monitor the implementation of lobbying provisions; and improvement of the capacity, efficiency and coordination of the APC to effectively implement integrity measures.
