Today's session of the Council of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption was dedicated to the assessments of the work of the Agency stated in the Working Document of the European Commission for Chapters 23 and 24 for Montenegro, published in May 2021.

Satisfaction was unanimously expressed due to the positive observations of the EC on the activities of the Agency, which with the election of the new Council and management started a major reform project, undertaking extensive structural and organizational changes, strengthening its capacities and proactively using legal competences.

The Head of the Department for International Cooperation, Standards and Public Relations, Marina Micunović, presented the progress of Montenegro in the prevention and fight against corruption, emphasizing the performance of the Agency, as the central preventive anti-corruption institution.

A comparative review of Non-Paper and the last two European Commission Reports on Montenegro from 2019 and 2020, clearly showed the improvement in all areas of the Agency's work, and recognized the track records achieved in just over half a year, from October 2020 to May 2021.

The challenges noted in previous reports in terms of independence, integrity, impartiality, transparency, non-selective approach and quality of decisions have been addressed in the last document, stating that "overall performance has improved". This provided support and encouragement to the Council and the Agency to continue with the undertaken reform activities and to provide a visible contribution to upgrading the environment of the rule of law and the trust of citizens in the rule of law.
