The representative of the Agency gave a presentation at the regional workshop on integrity and anti-corruption mechanisms

Co-ordinator of the Department for the prevention of corruption, Mladen Tomović gave a presentation in which he presented the results of the Agency regarding the effective implementation of the measures for raising the level of integrity and preventing conflict of interest at the Regional Workshop “Integrity and Control Measures in Defence and Law Enforcement Institutions”, jointly organized by RACVIAC – Centre for Security Cooperation, Regional Anti-corruption Initiative (RAI) and the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro, which took place on May 8th and 9th in Podgorica.

The aim of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of public institutions in Southeast Europe in the areas of integrity and the prevention of corruption, as well as to raise awareness about the innovative anti-corruption mechanisms, necessary legal and regulatory measures. The focus was on the presentation of the anti-corruption tools in the areas of conflict of interest, property checking, as well as the protection of confidential data, through the exchange of experience and good practices at the regional level, and in particular he highlighted the importance of strengthening the capacity of the institutions in these areas.

Tomović touched on the mechanisms of the prevention of conflict of interest and checking the property of public officials in Montenegro, presenting the results and experiences of the Agency in these areas. Also, during the workshop, the Representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Interior, presented the measures for the integrity and the prevention of corruption within their institutions, with special reference to the conflict of interest. In particular, in his opening speech, Head of Division for International Cooperation in the Ministry of Defence, Andrej Lakić, pointed out the importance of the inclusion of all stakeholders focused on the development of the global partnership and an active exchange of information in order to have an effective fight against corruption.

Speaking on behalf of the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative, Mr. Davor Dubravica, acting Chairperson of RAI, he pointed out the importance of topic of conflict of interest and property checking, especially in the institutions tasked with the implementation of the law and the ministries of defence and the commitment of the RAI to support the national institutions in the region of South Eastern Europe through strengthening of their capacity and the promotion of regional cooperation in the above-named areas.

The workshop was attended by more than 30 participants, including the representatives of the ministries of interior and defence from Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Kosovo.
